As you may know, our presence at the University of Manitoba is represented by the Games on Campus student group. At the beginning of every regular session term, UMSU organizes a week long student group recruitment drive. For the January 2012 term, that recruitment drive starts next Monday, with our own Games on Campus kiosk held on Friday. We’ve been doing this gig for a few years now so if you’ve been around long enough, you’ll be familiar with this semi-annual event.

If you happen to be on Campus for January 20th, you can find the Games on Campus Kiosk on First Floor University Center. There’s no real method to which desk we get on the 20th, so you’ll have to do a little searching from there but in the past we’ve been stationed right beside the Tim Horton’s.

At the Kiosk we’ll be demoing some of the games we play and everyone is welcome to come and enjoy them with us. Expect to see our most popular games like Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition (ver.2012), Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, King of Fighters XIII, BlazBlue Continuum Shift 2, Mortal Kombat 9 and some stuff that gets less play like Tetris Attack and maybe even a little Hokuto no Ken if I can help it. We’ll have our usual equipment provided along with some controllers so there’s no reason to bring your own unless you want to!

We encourage you to come down, bring a friend and play some games. Come meet the staff and see what Chip Damage and Games on Campus are all about. Hope to see some new faces for 2012!

With that in mind, Chip Damage is proud to announce Winnipeg’s first Soul Calibur 5 tournament held on February fourth at the U of Manitoba GSA Lounge! Like all of our launch tournaments, the Chip Damage Soul Calibur 5 Launch tournament will have free entry. Our tournament rules are still largely the same as they have been for similar games in the past:

All tournament matches are to be held on the Sony PlayStation 3

Prizes (to be announced) are awarded to the top three competitors

Double elimination tournament bracket

Matches are best two of three with rounds running best of five

As of this post, no characters aside from custom characters are currently banned*

* We realize that Dampierre is a pre-order bonus so if he cannot be obtained through means other than a game pre-order, he will most likely be banned. Stay tuned for more on that as the game launch comes closer.

For details on all our tournament rules please visit our forums post here. Feel free to take part in the community discussion about this event on our forums. Doors open at 1:00 for casuals and the tournament starts at 4:00. As usual, you can register at the venue on the day of the tournament. Details are subject to change, so make sure to check back again in the coming weeks!

Everyone is welcome and we hope to see you there!

It’s that time again. Winnipeg’s biggest annual fighting game tournament is back with That Summer Tournament 6. We’ve got the big games, smaller games, older games, and mystery games. Lots of stations, come one come all.

There is a bit of stuff still TBD, but we’ll keep you up to date with what’s going on, using BIG BOLD LETTERS.

———————————————————————————————————–

Registration Fee: $5.00
Yes, there is a registration fee this year. It’s necessary to cover the costs of the venue rental. However, if you don’t wish to enter tournaments, site entrance is still free and gets you access to casual play, exhibitions, and/or money matches.

Registration usually begins 1 or 2 hours before each tournament, so get there early and warm up some too.

If you wish to enter any tournament, you pay for the tournament entry fees on top of the 5 dollars.

Rules:
Standard EVO rule set. This includes banned wireless controllers unfortunately. Their full rule-set can be found here: http://evo2k.com/player-guide/tournament-rules/

This is largely a BRING YOUR OWN STICKS/CONTROLLER event but.
The console equipment will be labeled and registered to ensure its safety. However, please be careful with your sticks. Furthermore, if you know you’re attending and you do not have a stick to use, make sure you have a friend who can donate.

For pad/PS2 stick players, we tend to have PS2 pads and/or converters around, but don’t take this as confirmation of us having them there for you. Bring your own to be safe as opposed to sorry.

———————————————————————————————————–

Let’s have a big turn out and see what everyone can bring to the table.

Saskatchewan usually has a presence at this tourney too, so if you want to see what they can do too without the horror of actually going to Saskatchewan, this is your ticket .

Yes, we’re aware that it’s close to EVO but unfortunately it can’t be helped. You should come make back some of the money spent in Vegas and abound anyway.

Our charity tournament, Fight for the Future has returned! This time, we will be donating towards Japan for the tsunami relief. We felt it was only appropriate as the majority of games we play at our events, the strategies we’re spoonfed, the players we admire all come from Japan. The tsunami may be old news but Japan is no doubt still hurting from it. Therefore, we will be holding a tournament in support.

Entry fee will be 10$. This 10$ will grant you entry into all the tournaments of your choice.

Blazblue: Continuum Shift 2: 2pm
Mortal Kombat 9: 3pm
Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition: 4pm
Marvel vs Capcom 3: 6pm

We’re going to be doing a pizza order around 5pm. 5$ gets you half a pizza with 2 toppings from Pizza Hotline. Obviously you can order more if you pay more. If you want to order pizza, just give the tournament director your money at the signup desk when you sign up for your tournaments as well as what toppings you want before 5pm.

We also will have a donation box by the signup desk if you would like to donate more towards the fundraiser. We also encourage any other things to help raise money so long as they don’t interfere with tournament schedules. Things perhaps like a charity money match where the loser donates towards the fundraiser rather than pay the winner.

Info is subject to change. We’ll notify you of whatever changes.
