    Newsletter Vol.001: SF4 Gaming Night & BASELAN 17

    Chip Damage Newsletter - April 16, 2009

    Greetings Chip Damage community,

    This is the first volume of hopefully many to come official newsletters from the Chip Damage Community Team. Today, we just wanted to talk briefly about a few things, including; the ongoing Street Fighter IV Gaming Nights as well as the upcoming BASELAN 17.

    As you may or may not already know, we have been holding a weekly gathering at the UofM. We will be going on our 8th week this Friday.

    For those who do not participate in the forums or IRC, or read the front page at www.chipdamage.com , these gatherings are held every Friday(unless otherwise stated) at the UofM Science Lounge from approximately 7pm-11pm. We have been receiving a huge response from the community, with around 30+ people showing up weekly. But, there’s always room for more. We encourage everyone to come out, you may just learn a thing or two…

    Street Fighter 4: A Love/Hate Game – Korea

    That’s right, I’m up at 3:30 am. After watching a movie or two, I have nothing better to do, since I can’t sleep right now. As many of you are fully aware, we’ve been playing a lot of Street Fighter IV lately. I’ve been playing so much that I actually did not play at all on a Saturday. Once it hit Sunday though, whole different ball game.

    There are things about the game that we all love and then there are just the things that we hate. For instance, the fact that most characters don’t have really good setups for their Ultras is a big let down for me (Especially since I use a character who can’t setup unless a person is jumping in on Bison).     Matt’s Blogumn #3: Player Rankings

    Whether or not you’ve noticed, there are some long-awaited new player rankings up on the forums. I’m sure that you guys have read the rankings, re-read the rankings, taken them to bed with you, and have come to settle in one of four schools of thought:

    (a) You figured “Hey, a bunch of good players are at the top, seems pretty reasonable to me”, and went along your way.
    (b) You thought “Why are there decimal places here?”, wondered whether this makes any sense, and you’re still sitting here trying to comprehend it.
    (c) You noticed the decimal figures, concluded that I was just “spamming numbers”, and went to post on GameFAQs about it.
    (d) You groaned and thought “Matt is nerding up the SF4 rankings…I bet there’s a…
