The Baselan tournament proved to be a great success! Good games to all the participants that made it out and congratulations; it was one hell of a party!

First off I’d like to extend a personal thanks to all the people that made this event possible, the BL staff for providing a great venue and nYo and his lovely fiance for running all the nitty-gritty admin stuff. Thanks to ckasady for making sure the brackets ran smoothly and thanks to ShinAkuma who provided all the AV equipment. Match videos from the tournament can be found on his youtube channel here.

Props to Korea for bringing the hype, introducing me to the scene in the first place and giving me a ride home, and JayseR, you’re a turd for ditching the tournament to go to the cottage. (Expect to receive more hate than I give Sagat =P)

I extend a thanks to nYo for kicking my ass when it mattered, it’s because of that kind of nonsense that I want to grow as a player, just to beat him the next time around. Good games man and nice job on that one perfect. I’ll get you next time lol.

ShinAkuma, thanks for the advice, I’ll be working on working it into my game to grow as a player. What you said about Winnipeg growing as a scene certainly seems to be viable with the kinds of people resources we have here. Congratulations on beasting everyone at the tournament and for your 1st place!

I apologize to anyone that I have missed. I’m tired and I have to study lol.

As this was my first major tournament, I found there are a couple points I need to adress, namely things I need to work on as a player. More specifically, how to punish more effectively, controlling space with my pokes as well as realizing when and how to sit back on a lead and make the other person work. These are all game strategy related things that’ll only come with practice and trial and error.

I felt my biggest weakness however was intimidation and cracking under my lack of tournament nerves. nYo and Korea likely know this more than anyone as they tend to capitalize on it.

Great games to everyone that showed up, it was a blast. Hopefully we can have more events to get our names out there and I’m looking forward to the next tournament. Catch the match videos and look forward to Focus Attack Episode 3 to catch some of the tournament hype.

To those of you that decided not to go or couldn’t for other reasons make sure you kick yourselves.
