Welcome to the site. If you’re feeling a little lost, here’s where you can start:

(FAQ) Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who are you?
    • We are Chip Damage. We’re a gaming group located at the University of Manitoba specializing in mainly fighting game tournaments. We are closely partnered with the University of Manitoba student group Games on Campus.
  • What do you do?
    • We host tournaments for several fighting games every few months. During the summer we run our largest tournament of the year, usually in August. We call it “That Summer Tournament (TST)
  • What games do you play?
    • Currently, the games that receive the largest amount of entries and the highest level of players are Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition and Marvel vs. Capcom 3.
    • However, we also have audiences for other fighting games such as Tekken, BlazBlue and King of Fighters. If there’s a fighting game you like, chances are, someone else here knows about it and plays it as well.
  • Do I need to be a university student to attend events?
    • No. That’s the beauty of it, all Chip Damage events are open to everyone. You do not need to be a university student nor is there any sore of membership needed to be part of our community.
  • I’d like to play, but I’m not very skilled with these games.
    • Not a problem! The Chip Damage community welcome all players of all skill levels. You can be sure to find someone here who is at your skill level no matter how high or low.
    • If you are willing to learn, we are always willing to teach. Hey, you gotta start somewhere!
  • Do you play anything other than fighting games?
    • While there are certainly players who come that enjoy many other types of games, we prefer to avoid hosting events for game genres that already have their own established communities in Winnipeg. If console shooters like Halo and Call of Duty are more your thing, we recommend you check out the guys at All Your Base Online.
    • Although we may not hold tournaments for anything other than fighting games, we do in-fact play a wide variety of games. Many of us own Xbox 360 / PS3 consoles, and PC.
  • Isn’t there already another UofM gamer’s group?
    • That would be the UMGA. The SSGA and UMGA are two different gamer groups located at the University of Manitoba. Sorry for any confusion. Smiley
    • We often have house gatherings and such on the weekends. If something is going on or if you want to do something yourself, feel free to post in the Gatherings thread.
  • I’ve never been to campus, where do I go?
    • Just check out the Directions page of our site. It gives you maps and pictures that should point you in the right direction. If you’re still lost, feel free to contact any of the staff members (contact info below).
  • Who do I contact if I want more info?
    • If you feel the need to contact any of the staff members, we are always here to help. Either send us a private message on the forums or contact us by email.  The staff members of Chip Damage are:
    • If you’re an SSBM player and want info particularly on that game, your best bet would be to contact Duong as mentioned above.
